ENSEMBLES & CLASSES
Wind Symphony
Our premier concert band, the Wind Symphony performs at all concerts, festivals, and competitions. This is an auditioned ensemble, made up of mostly upperclassmen. They perform advanced high school and college level literature and consistently earn superior ratings.
Symphonic Band
Our intermediate level concert band, Symphonic Band performs at most concerts, and festivals. This is an auditioned ensemble, made up of all grade levels. They perform high school level literature and earn superior and excellent ratings.
Concert Band
Our entry-level concert band performs at the Fall concert, Winterfest, and Pops in the Park. The ensemble focuses on building skills and techniques in order to perform more challenging high school level literature.
Jazz Band
The Widefield High School Jazz Band is a premiere performance ensemble. Membership is by audition only, and the ensemble is a standard big band setup. They perform at most concerts, and travel to many festivals and competitions throughout the year. They perform high school and advanced high school literature and consistently earn superior ratings.
The Big Blue Pep Band
The WHS Big Blue Pep Band is made up of instrumentalists from across the performing arts. It is a volunteer ensemble that performs at many home basketball games and the occasional pep rally. Our pep band has been often referred to as the best in the league and their purpose is to support the team and pump up the crowd. Students who fulfill their commitment can receive letter points for participation.
Gladiator Marching Band
The Gladiator Marching Band is an 8th period (after school) class for students interested in the marching arts. The Gladiator Marching Band Camp begins in July and the season is over after the last football game/competition, usually in early November. This ensemble has risen to the State ranks and has placed in the top 10 bands. It requires time, dedication, determination, and perseverance; and teaches confidence, pride, leadership, and teamwork.
WHS Winter Percussion
Winter Percussion is an extracurricular percussion group that includes both marching band percussion (drumline) as well as concert percussion. Winter Percussion is open to ALL music students, even those not in band. They continue performing at pep assemblies and other events throughout the year.
Color Guard
The WHS Color Guard is a visual ensemble whose main function is to contribute to the Gladiator Marching Band show each Fall. During the Winter/Spring, students may participate in Winter Colorguard and compete in regional and State competitions.
